My name is Wang Ni, I am an architect and the mother of eight-year-old girl named Aman.

Aman has been familiar with drawing since she was born. During most of our time together, she would join me in sketching, model making, or discuss design schemes in meetings. It wasn't until she was five that she hesitantly expressed a desire to learn drawing herself. Hence her drawing journey began with the sketch "The Hobbit," and it has been three years since.

Aman's creations inspiration came from reference images or photographs. We often enjoy artworks and music together, discussing how to view and interpret the intentions behind the creations. I always encourage Aman to observe, feel, and internalize before starting her own independent creations.

With the advancement of AI and imaging technology, the boundary between reality and illusion has blurred, and the purpose of painting is no longer just to record reality. Yet, if we look at ourselves as 'human beings', returning to our innate recognition of the true self is something technology cannot replace. The experiences and emotions that sprout from deep within, the self-expression formed from seeking truth, and the joy and resonance found in creation, nourish our minds and bodies in this miraculous transformation.

Just like the works included in this small collection of paintings, the material revolves around Aman's life, the people and things around her, her surprises, happiness, and emotions. She often leaves her own comments next to the touching paintings, drawing inspiration from daily life, reflecting, and constructing her inner reality.

I have deliberately included the images she referred to before creating her works, hoping to accurately reflect her thought process in creation. It might seem like I am guiding her in painting, but in fact, it is her creations that bring me more emotion and inspiration. Her perspective and views subtly influence my designs and research.

At the end of the day, we play music together, share our recent works, and discuss how to view the world beyond reality. I realize that as her mother, I am merely older than her by age, it is a privilege to grow alongside her and live our learning journey together. In this case I am not sure how to answer her question, what is art?

“If you find Mona Lisa's smile beautiful, then it is art to you. If Dali's surrealism surprises you, then it is art. If you feel Van Gogh's Sunflowers are defiantly alive, then he is art. Art is difficult to explain, but if you find a connection between the creator and yourself in it, that instant touch is a great joy, and perhaps, that is art.”
